Abortion, War, the Death Penalty, and More

This presentation focuses on the 5th Commandment: “Thou shalt not kill.”

Every human life is sacred, for we are all made in God’s image.  Today, more than ever, the sacredness of human life is violated and disrespected.

However, there are many difficult and controversial questions that need to be answered here:

  • Is all violence wrong?  What about self-defense?
  • Is there such a thing as just war?
  • Are abortion and the death penalty equally evil?
  • What about the use of torture in the government’s counter-terrorism efforts?

These issues get clouded and complicated because they are so politicized.  It is important, in viewing this presentation, to put one’s political leanings aside.  Drawing from Scripture and the Catechism, Father Sakowski will focus on the moral principles involved – principles which will prove challenging to “conservatives” and “liberals” alike.
