Why Would Anyone Become a Monk or Nun?

Many have muttered at the fact that priests aren’t “allowed to” get married, or perhaps they consider it a “shame” and a “waste" when they hear of a young woman joining a convent, or a man becoming a religious brother.  For members of both genders, the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience may even seem unnatural and un-human.  But the call to religious life has been heard time and again throughout the Church’s history, and has deep roots in Scripture. This presentation will offer an overview of what the religious life is, and why it still exists today and why it will continue to exist until Our Lord comes again.
